CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPERD

CGS-2-1200x520

St. Peter Cathedral Faith Formation Office and Father Marquette Catholic Academy are delighted to announce the launch of the Level 1 Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program soon.

“The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd  is a Montessori-based religious formation program for children… It seeks to create and facilitate a sacred, ‘hands-on’ space for children called an Atrium, in which both the children and their catechists can hear, ponder, and celebrate the most essential mysteries of the Catholic faith as revealed in the Scriptures and the Liturgy. Originally developed in Rome by Sofia Cavaletti and Gianna Gobbi fifty years ago, the Catechesis continues to spread world-wide.”(1)

Within the Atrium  the mysteries of God and of the child meet, drawing all into a deeper relationship with Him who loved us first. Each level is specifically tailored to the developmental stages and needs of the child. The focus of the Atrium is not intellectual; that is secondary. The Atrium is a retreat center designed to help the child come to God himself that s/he may come to know and grow in relationship with the Good Shepherd. (John 10: 14-15)

The sacred, hands on space of the Atrium will be housed in the Father Marquette Elementary School and as a shared program will be utilized by CGS trained catechists from both the school and St. Peter Cathedral Faith Formation.

The Atrium Needs.  Materials  are predominantly hand made. Volunteer woodworker, painters, seamstresses, and artists of all varieties are needed to build this special space for our children and God. Has God gifted you with any of these talents? Financial donations are also greatly appreciated as many furnishings and special child size materials are needed.  Donations can be made payable to St. Peter Cathedral with a notation of CGS Atrium in the Memo line.  If you can help us in any way, small or large, please contact Jenny Lochner, St. Peter Cathedral Faith Formation Coordinator at 869-1551 or Julie Smigiel, Father Marquette Catholic Academy PK teacher, at 250-0384.

Registering for CGS

To enroll your child, age 3-6, in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd through St. Peter Cathedral Faith Formation, please contact Jenny as noted above.
