onsignor Nolan B. McKevitt was born in Ironwood, Michigan on June 20, 1909. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Ambrose in Ironwood. He attended the St. Ambrose grade school and high school. He went to the Nazareth Hall Preparatory Seminary and then the St. Paul Major Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was ordained by Bishop Nussbaum on June 8, 1935 - just two weeks before Bishop Nussbaum died. His first Mass was celebrated at St. Ambrose Church in Ironwood on June 11, 1935.His assignments as either Assistant or Pastor included: St. Peter Cathedral, Marquette; St. Sebastian, Bessemer; St. Patrick, Escanaba; St. John, Garden; and St. Ignatius, St. Ignace. He came to St. Peter Cathedral as Rector on July 11, 1950. He held this post for 25 years. He retired on July 13, 1975. He was made a Monsignor in 1954 and was elevated to Protonotary Apostolic in 1964. He served as Vicar General of the Diocese from 1961 to 1975. He presently resides in Marquette.
